Robot Architectures and Human-Robot Interaction

Taking as starting point previous research work of the Transverse Activity on Intelligent Robotics (ATRI) of the University of Aveiro, Portugal, I will discuss several issues concerned with robot architectures and human-robot interaction.

In the first part, I will provide an overview of different architectures for perception, internal processing and actuation used in different projects (robotic soccer, simulated soccer, humanoid robot, interactive servant, etc.). In the second part of the talk, I will focus on human-robot interaction, particularly linguistic communication.

A spoken language dialog system, developed for an interactive robotic servant, will be presented. Some recent work on category learning for language acquisition will also be presented. Finally, research trends will be analyzed and discussed.
