Edge computing is a relatively new field of research in comparison with cloud computing. While cloud computing provides resources in a centralized manner, edge computing brings resources closer to the user. Edge computing thus describes a paradigm shift. However, due to the fact that the topic is still young, there are no uniform definitions. As a result, different research groups work on different understandings of what edge computing is, which reduces the comparability of the studies.
The master's thesis aims to create comparability between the various studies on the topic of edge computing. To achieve this, a meta-study will first provide an overview of the current state of research. In a second part, a test environment will be implemented to serve as a basis for further research. The test environment should enable researchers to run their experiments on the same system. This increases the comparability between the studies because differences in factors like hardware or network are eliminated.
