In almost all areas of our lives, we are monitored, tracked and followed by a wide range of companies. This extensive access to data enables companies to sort, rate, and rank us as they see fit and to exploit personal weaknesses with calculated efficiency. In his talk researcher, writer and digital rights activist Wolfie Christl (Cracked Labs, Vienna) will explain the structure and scope of today's personal data economy. Who are the main players and how do they actually use data? How do the commercial uses of personal data affect individuals, groups of people, and society at large? And what has to be done?
