"Taming the Machines" public lecture series will kick off this summer semester on June 3, 2025 with a lecture on the paradox of misinformation and disinformation in our information-rich society. Prof. Dr. Gloria Origgi (CNRS, Paris) will define misinformation and disinformation, and explore how they relate to knowledge, truth, and information. She will discuss factors like social networks, political polarization, propaganda, and the fragmentation of the public sphere, which contribute to the rise of misinformation, creating hostile environments that inhibit critical thinking and promote irrationality.
