Lecture Objectives and Contents
This lecture provides an overview of the foundations and fundamental building blocks of distributed systems, operating systems, data communications and systems security. Topics include basic concepts of concurrency and distribution (processes, synchronization, communication between processes, threads, deadlocks) as well as concurrent access to resources, and concepts and architectural alternatives for communication mechanisms (services and protocols). In the area of systems security the basic concepts of physical security, access control, malware protection are described. Furthermore, the lecture will give an introduction to cryptography and steganography.
Course Organization and Availability
The course is regularly held in winter term. Course language is German. It is accompanied by an Integrated Seminar or exercise/tutorial (Übung). The tutorial contains Online tests that have to be submitted before a specific deadline. Questions are discussed in a tutorial in the week after the deadline. The tutorials typically take place in a bi-weekly rhythm. The final grade is obtained via a written exam (60 minutes time, open book). All statements without warranty.
