Oskar recently attended a two-week summer school at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), where he deepened his knowledge of computer science and gained insight into the university's modern research facilities. With nearly 60 participants from around the globe, the program offered opportunities to learn about the PhD program and meet potential supervisors. The impressive variety of research projects and modern labs showcased the university's diverse research areas.
In addition to theoretical knowledge, the summer school included practical workshops that helped participants enhance their scientific writing and presentation skills. An AI workshop provided firsthand demonstrations of artificial intelligence, highlighting its practical applications and potential impact. Another engaging session focused on environmental sustainability, where participants creatively recycled plastic waste into guitar picks or cloth bag imprints.
Outside the academic program, Oskar explored the vibrant city of Hong Kong. A guided double-decker bus tour revealed the city's unique blend of tradition and modernity. During his free time, he visited local attractions and experienced the diverse culture and nature, particularly enjoying authentic Hong Kong cuisine such as dim sum, milk tea, and popular street foods like egg waffles and curry fish balls.
Overall, the trip offered Oskar enriching academic and cultural experiences. He returned home with lasting impressions, new friendships, and a broadened perspective on his field of study and the world beyond the classroom.
