The German Research Foundation (DFG) has granted the first international SFB/Transregio 169: Cross-modal Learning: Adaptivity, Prediction and Interaction at the University of Hamburg. The first funding period will last for 4 years. Within the TRR 169, our project C6 about multi-sensory perception, learning and action for crossmodal tele-operations has been funded. In our project we will explore crossmodal perception, adaptation and learning during human-robot collaboration with the focus on tele-operations, which are performed inside the human operator’s peripersonal space, i.e., inside his/her arm reach. In TRR 169 scientist from the Department of Informatics, Department of Psychology from the University of Hamburg and colleagues from the Department of Neuroscience of the Universitätsklinikums Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) will cooperate with scientists from the Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Beijing Normal University and the Peking University. The project is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Jianwei Zhang and Prof. Dr. Stefan Wermter (both at the Department of Informatics).
