From November 9 to 13, the Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing took place in Costa Rica. Marten Borchers presented the publication Hear Me Out: Supporting Citizens to Create Comprehensible Contributions on Urban Participation Platforms. Together with Daria Soroko, Dr. Navid Tavanapour, and Eva Bittner, the publication examines the research question “How to support citizens in creating comprehensible contributions on urban participation platforms?”.
The publication describes how the use of AI on urban participation platforms can support citizens in writing more extensive and diverse contributions. To this end, three prototypes and a topic- and level-based AI-based feedback system were developed and evaluated. The results illustrate the potential and were condensed into five design principles that support the design of intelligent urban participation platforms.
The open-access publication can be downloaded from the ACM library, and a summary can be found on Medium.
