The creative labs of the Network of Labs (ahoi.digital) are again organizing an evening event for students, the Digital Science Night. In the summer semester we will go to the Elbe and organize the Häcks on the Beach.
On Friday, 30 August 2019, the first part of the two-day Digital Science Nights will take place. The Network of Labs will host a collaborative hackaton in the rooms of CSTI Labs (Steindamm 94). On Saturday, August 31st, the event will take place at Café Entenwerder 1 on the Elbe.
HÄCKS ON THE BEACH: A pontoon on the Elbe for a weekend!
Packed with sensors, with underwater cameras, gyroscopes, webcams, temperature sensors and a digitally recorded beehive, we are allowed to develop meaningful and exciting digital experiments and prototypes directly at the Elbe bridges for two days.
What happens if a sensor can be installed in every wooden plank? The environment begins to speak, is digitally recorded and can behave adequately. Sensor networks and existing data result in completely different approaches to how we perceive and communicate with our environment.
In a two-day hackathon with participants from the University of Hamburg, HAW, TUHH and HafenCity University, we want to try out agile, prototypical, fun and coffee-based methods of using sensors on a pontoon in the Elbe. What you can learn about current speeds, where the Elbe flows the fastest, the wind whistles the sharpest or the fine dust pollution is the lowest. And whether this can best be understood as a sound event, in flow charts or as a digital sculpture.
The goal is to develop and set up a station/sculpture/media installation that will be set up in the café on the pontoon in Entenwerder on Saturday afternoon and have a big party in the evening for the opening and closing.
program:
10:00 Welcome
10:15 Presentation of the 4 laboratories
11:15 Group formation and project selection
11:30 Start Hackathon
open-ended
Please register for the workshop via the Meetup page!
On Saturday, the exhibits will be adapted to the Elbe River in Café Entenwerder. At about 4 pm the exhibition and party will start.
The entrance is of course free.
Workshops
Each Lab of the Network of Labs offers its own small workshops as topics. Students select the topics in cross-university groups and develop cool sculptures or media installations using AI methods or sensors.
We have summarized updated information from the preparatory meeting for you: DSN-2019-hacks.pdf
Location:
The workshop takes place directly at the CSTI. The next stations are Berliner Tor (S-Bahn, U2, U3) and direct Lohmühlenstraße (U1).
