As part of the zukunft.digital project of the German Children and Youth Foundation (DKJS), teams consisting of one school and students of teacher training and computer science are formed, who work together on a project on artificial intelligence (AI) over a school semester or term. The projects might focus on learning about AI, such as by developing teaching units and learning modules, or using AI as a tool, for example to develop assistance systems or a subject-specific school AI.
The projects take into account the individual conditions of the school so that they can be effectively and sustainably continued after the project duration has ended.
Participants in the project learn through good practice examples, peer-to-peer exchange, and their own experimenting how the potential of AI can already be used early on to promote innovation and future skills. In project implementation, teachers gain confidence in handling AI, receive inspiration for contemporary and creative approaches to teaching design, and develop agile working methods.
Schools and students are supported by the DKJS through kickoff and closing workshops, ongoing advisory and qualification offers, excursions and job shadowing, as well as opportunities for interschool exchange. Content-wise, there is an intensive focus on the topic of AI in schools, and, methodically, working methods and tools for agile collaboration are taught.
Participating students benefit from practical insights, valuable contacts, diverse advisory, learning, and excursion offers, and also receive 6 ECTS credits as well as a certificate of their commitment.
