Shared Spaces in 3D Interaction
Research in VR focused on single-user environments until now. As Head-Mounted Displays became cheaper in the last years, now it's possible to build Distributed Virtual Environments or Shared Spaces that can be visited by multiple people at the same time.
In this project we're exploring multi-user VR applications and examine problems, for example the perception of and interaction between multi-scaled avatars. Furthermore we're interested in collaborative interaction across devices. It should be feasible that different people are using different devices (like HMDs, CAVEs, stereoscopic multi-touch tables or even tablets and smartphones) for different tasks in the same virtual environment.
Until now we have build a multi-user system upon the kinect and an HMD, that supports full-body awareness.
