At the 57th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), we presented three publications related to generative AI, which were developed with the collaboration of the University of Hamburg WISTS department (https://www.inf.uni-hamburg.de/inst/ab/wists/home.html) and the HyMeKI project (https://hymeki.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/). Here is an overview (link to publications below):
[1] Brainstorming with Humans and AI: In this study, we explored the collaboration between humans and generative AI systems in brainstorming teams. The results show that teams consisting of humans and generative AI systems contribute ideas in more categories and thus demonstrate higher "flexibility" than individuals brainstorming alone.
[2] Effects of Prompt Engineering on Brainstorming Ideas: Our research focuses on the impact of prompt engineering on the quality of brainstorming ideas generated by GPT-3. We found that various prompt engineering techniques have some positive, but also some negative effects on the quality of the ideas (in terms of novelty and value). Overall, the differences were (surprisingly) small.
[3] Prompt-a-thon: Co-Creation with Generative AI: Introduction of the "Prompt-a-thon" format for problem-solving collaboratively by humans and generative AI.
Many thanks to the HICSS team, the (mini-)track chairs, reviewers, and the audience for the interesting conference and stimulating discussions. Also, thanks to all co-authors for the great collaboration: Eva Bittner, Izabel Cvetkovic, Emir Kucevic, Constantin von Brackel-Schmidt, Tom Lewandowski, Stephan Leible, and Tilo Böhmann
