Paper publication and participation at the 19th International Conference on Design Science Research in Information Systems and Technology
26 May 2024, by Marten Borchers
As part of this year's 19th Conference on Design Science Research in Information Systems and Technology (DESRIST), the paper "Let Citizens Speak Up: Designing Intelligent Online Participation in Urban Planning Projects" by Marten Borchers, Maren Gierlich-Joas, Navid Tavanapour, and Eva Bittner will be presented.
The paper examines how IT artifacts can be designed to support citizens in digital civic participation in urban planning. In the paper, we review existing literature, formulate requirements, and develop a prototype that stimulates and supports citizens through content-related questions to reflect on and expand their contributions as needed. In practice, this, as well as comparable systems, can lead to citizens' contributions being more elaborate and comprehensive, thereby supporting subsequent processes and resulting decisions arising from participation.
