The WISTS group is proud to announce two publication successes at this year’s 45th International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), held in Bangkok. Presenting the results at the world’s leading conference for information systems research provided an excellent opportunity to engage with the international academic community.
The paper titled “Cognitive Load Theory Approach to Hybrid Intelligence: Tackling the Dual Aim of Task Performance and Learning” by Eva Bittner, Sarah Oeste-Reiß, Rosemarie Kirmse, Mathis Poser, and Christina Wiethof focuses on developing hybrid intelligence systems that address the dual objective of enhancing task performance and learning in knowledge-intensive work environments. Drawing on cognitive load theory, the authors propose intervention strategies in the form of design patterns to mitigate cognitive challenges and support users effectively.
The paper “Brainstorming with a Generative Language Model: The Role of Creative Ability and Tool-Support for Brainstorming Performance” by Lucas Memmert, Julian Mies, and Eva Bittner explores the question of who benefits from generative AI and how usage behavior varies based on individual characteristics. Specifically, it examines how differences in creative ability and support through generative language models (e.g., GPT-4) influence brainstorming performance. The findings reveal that participants with lower creative ability experience increased fluency when supported by generative AI, while the originality of generated ideas is positively impacted across all groups.
