1 May 2026, by FSR Informatik
Hello everyone,
Spring is here and things are very slowly getting back to normal in the new buildings.
We have lots of great news for you, but first the dates:
Mon 4 May, 4.00–10.00 pm in Geom 1240
Queer evening
from 6 May, every Wednesday 4.00–9.00 pm in Seminar Room 3.2
Study evening
Study evenings
From next Wednesday onwards, we have reserved Seminar Room 3.2 for you every Wednesday.
Whether you simply don’t want to be alone whilst studying or working, need space for group work, or want to catch up on the ETI lecture together, feel free to drop by – that’s exactly what this time slot is for.
Even if you have questions about homework or similar topics, there are bound to be friendly students from higher years there who will be happy to help you if you ask them nicely. However, we would like to make it clear that this is not a tutoring programme and we cannot guarantee that your questions will be answered.
We hope to move to a larger seminar room in the House of Computer Science in the near future; when the time comes, we will of course let you know.
Website
We have been and still are hard at work and have started to build an online presence on the university website [0]. The whole project is far from finished, but the basic framework is in place. Feel free to take a look and if you have any feedback or suggestions for additions, please let us know.
In the coming days, the homepage will primarily be updated with a calendar, so that you can always access the latest student council dates at a glance.
You can now also find all past and future FSR newsletters there to read [2], or you can subscribe to them via RSS feed.
A call to all working group members:
Please take a look at the new working group list [1] and get in touch if
- Your active working group is not listed
- There is currently no way to contact you on the site (please let us know if this is the case)
- You have any requests for changes to your mini-post.
These short overviews belong to you, so feel free to design them however you like. Simply send us an email with the new content and we’ll be happy to update it for you.
New openings
In case you haven’t heard yet, the MIN canteen will soon (we hope next week) start offering takeaway food. Seating on site will follow later; it’s still under construction.
Also, on Thursday 7 May, the library will finally open for you, and with it the student study area on the 6th floor of the library.
And last but not least, we hope to open the c.t. within the next week as well; the first plans for drink orders are already being drawn up.
Planning new teaching concepts
Hopefully, the cuts at the university haven’t gone unnoticed by anyone. Our department will also be affected.
The biggest expenses we have in teaching and learning are tutor salaries, and savings will have to be made there too over the next few years.
At the last BaStL meeting, we agreed that we do not want to make cuts in the wrong areas, as student tutors are essential for good teaching, particularly in the theory modules.
Therefore, it will likely affect the SE and RSB tutorials in particular.
To ensure we are prepared, we would like to set up a task force – in collaboration with the lecturers – to devise new tutorial concepts for SE 1 & 2, the RSB tutorials and the practical placement. The aim is to maintain the high practical component of both modules whilst still managing with fewer tutors. In SE, we currently require one tutor for just under seven students; this is not particularly efficient.
If you have any ideas or would simply like to get involved in the redesign, please do get in touch with us. Student input is particularly important here.
If you’ve made it this far, we’d like to thank you very much for reading so attentively :)
Wishing you a sunny May and a relaxing Whitsun break,
Your FSR
