UHH HCI at ACM CHI 2026

The HCI group made a notable impact at the ACM CHI program with several significant contributions.
Dr. Sukran Karaosmanoglu received the 2026 ACM SIGCHI Outstanding Dissertation Award. The prestigious ACM SIGCHI Outstanding Dissertation Award recognizes the most outstanding research contributions from recently graduated Ph.D. students within the Human-Computer Interaction community, showcasing the quality and impact of Human-Computer Interaction research.
The HCI group presented an impressive lineup of research contributions, including two full papers - one earning an honourable mention - and two posters:
- Show Me How to Play: Exploring Self-Modeling for Onboarding in Virtual Reality Exergames - honourable mention
- When Play Hurts: Understanding Common Barriers in Movement-Based Games
- Enhancing Memory Recall Through AI-Assisted Method of Loci in Virtual Reality
- Augmented Reality for Tabletop and In-Situ Visualization of Road Construction Drawings to Support Engineers
Prof. Dr. Frank Steinicke served as session chair for a full paper session, and Dr. Sukran Karaosmanoglu co-led the organization of the German HCI Event, which successfully brought together over 1000 HCI researchers for a vibrant networking event.
The ACM CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems is the premier international conference of Human-Computer Interaction. The conference was held in Barcelona, Spain between 13-17 April 2026.
