Doctoral Thesis Defense of Tayfun Alpay

Tayfun Alpay successfully defended his doctoral thesis titled "Periodicity, Surprisal, Attention: Skip Conditions for Recurrent Neural Networks" on 24 March 2021. The thesis introduces novel skip conditions for recurrent neural networks in order to successfully skip over information that is redundant or irrelevant to the given task. The methodologies are evaluated in the context of natural language processing and shown to provide a good balance between model performance and skipping. Congratulations to Tayfun by the Knowledge Technology team!
