Title of the project: BigBlueButton transcription and information lookup
The ongoing pandemic has increased the demand for digital collaboration software in different areas like professional work, social communities, and education. BigBlueButton is an open-source video conferencing software which is used for synchronous digital lectures and seminars at the Hamburg University.
This software was extended by a speech-to-text transcription service (Kaldi), which is used to show the spoken text within the BBB meeting for every single user. From the transcribed text, every user can click on phrases or keywords and immediately additional information is presented in the meeting room of this particular user.
Information sources can be added easily which allows adapting the application to different scenarios. Wikipedia and lecture slides are already indexed. There are lots of application areas where these extensions are of immense value. For example, it is possible for students in lectures or employees in a professional meeting, if they do not know the meaning of a particular term and want to follow the meeting without getting distracted more than necessary.
