Masterproject Web Interfaces for Language Processing Systems
Master project Web Interfaces for Language Processing Systems
The master project (9CP) has an associated seminar (3CP) for a total of 12CP.
Contents:
Students create language processing systems and visualizations for displaying information. The systems are created in small groups. Every small group processes an individual topic, which will have 2 aspects: 1) processing of text for extracting information and 2) visualization of this information.
Topics will be handed out in the first session. Some topics are directly inspired from research projects. For examples, see e.g. www.newsleak.io or www.tagesnetzwerk.de (Chrome browser recommended for both demos).
Goals:
In the Master project, students learn
- practical aspects and use of language processing technologies
- using and creating visualization toos for aggregating information
- successfully completing a complex task, adhering to software engineering principles
- creation of open source projects, including documentation, version control etc.
- Very successful projects will be led toward a publication.
In the integrated seminar, students learn
- presentation of technologies, techniques of presentation
Procedure:
After a general introduction to technologies, topics will be distributed amongst groups. In a regular schedule, groups present their progress. In the course of the integrated seminar, students present topics in the area of language technology and visualization.
Literature:
individually assigned per topic
More information on grading:
To successfully pass, we ask the following:
- running prototype
- source code, incl. documentation
- technical report / description of project
The following is required for successfully completing the integrated seminar:
- presentation on a topic in language technology and visualization
