“Enhancing the User Support Process in Federated E-Science”

Abstract:

The maturity of grid technology has enabled inter-connectivity of data centres and supercomputing (HPC) instruments, which gave rise to e-Science infrastructures. E-Science infrastructures have reached their production level as far as their capability to serve and connect data is concerned. However, researchers face difficulties in their quest to perform complex operations, using the e-Science infrastructures, for big data analysis and research. Unfortunately, there are fewer studies conducted so far that examine the user process and address stakeholder concerns. At the same time, user-oriented service aspects that include technology and processes present in e-Research are not being paid attention to. In this talk, a summary of the results of a study conducted on a popular (global) distributed e-Science infrastructure shall be presented. The results indicate that the current user support process needs to be re-structured, in order to provide better service possibilities to researchers.
