Abstract
The laws of quantum physics determine the structure of matter. This holds for atoms and molecules but also for extended bulk systems, such as crystals and has been the agenda for many past decades of quantum research.
Recently dynamical processes have come into the focus of research in quantum physics and also in quantum technologically relevant protocols. In the first part of this presentation we demonstrate the impact of atomic interactions on key processes in quantum physics, such as tunneling and transport. A brief account of the underlying theoretical framework and methodology is provided.
In the second part we describe how to develop protocols designed to generate, store and transfer quantum states in a quantum network. These are based on so-called compact localized states whose existence can be systematically predicted in networks, by using very recent graph theoretical approaches.
Compact localized states turn out to be very robust due to the lack of their coupling to the environment, but can at the same time be manipulated via an external switching procedure.
Our approach allows for a flexible storage and transfer of states along independent paths in lattices supporting flat energetic bands. It applies to various physical setups of electronic, electromagnetic or acoustic origin.
