Titel der Dissertation: Exploring the Domain Shift in the Introduction of IS: The Case of Low-Code Development Platforms and Conversational Agents
This dissertation examines the impact of emerging technologies (low-code development platforms (LCDPs) and conversational agents (CAs)) on the changing roles and responsibilities in IS development and operation. These technologies simplify software creation and enhance user interaction, enabling business users to take a more active role in IT processes. This shift, referred to as the “domain shift,” reflects a movement toward user-centricity and domain-embedded IS practices, challenging traditional IT governance and introducing new dynamics in responsibility, accountability, and user inclusion. To investigate this domain shift, the study employs a Design Science Research (DSR) methodology, which includes structured literature reviews and iterative artifact evaluation. The research aims to provide actionable insights while maintaining theoretical rigor by contextualizing findings across different organizational settings. The dissertation offers three major contributions on (1) User-Centric Conversational Agent Design, (2) Integration of User Needs in IS Implementation, and (3) Organizational Adaptation and Governance. In sum, this research contributes to the socio-technical understanding of IS by offering new theoretical insights and practical tools to support organizations in navigating the domain shift brought about by emerging technologies like LCDPs and CAs.
The presentation will be given in German.
