core services
In Informatics IT - structures and their components are not only application objects , but an essential part of and content of teaching and research. This also explains the motivation in the 80’s to build own computer centers at many Informatics departments in Germany in order to meet the rapidly changing demands on the IT supply structures. This can not be provided generally in the context of a standard IT supply through a central data center at appropriate times.
The responsibilities of Informatics computer center in Hamburg's University are defined as follows :
- central subject-based and flexible provision of IT provision for the purpose of training , planning and organization of the workstation in pool rooms,
- Advice and support of IT equipment for work areas
- Picking up of innovative IT developments , the pilot -like implementation, review and evaluation of their functionality for a transfer into the regular data center operations,
- central services such as mail , data and Web servers, and network administration of the Informatics communication network , provided that these services are not provided centrally by the Regional Computer Center of the University ( RRZHH ) , but have been delegated.
In addition, the academic staff is involved in teaching in the Faculty.
