Computer labs
We have multiple computer labs available for student, staff and faculty use. A majority of our computer labs contain Dell PCs; however, we also provide students access to Mac computers.
In general, our computer labs are accessible during the opening hours of the IRZ. Courses and reservations have priority.
PCs (Windows and Linux)
The PCs are running Windows 10 and Ubuntu Linux (dual boot). They are integrated into the department network and can access the network printers.
Logging in is done via personal user IDs.

Local home directory
After logging in with your user ID you get a login directory set up locally on the Mac. All files created there remain locally on this Mac, so you should, if necessary, are always be working on the same Mac.
Unix home directory
You must make your Unix home directory available if required: in the Finder menu choose "Go to" and then "Connect to Server" and specify as the server the address smb://rzt2000/unixhome. This drive will then appear on your desktop as a network drive with the name UNIX HOME.
You can also to address the scratch disk on the file server rzt2000 with the server address smb://rzt2000/unixscratch.
Note: Those whose home directory is already on the new fileserver rzfilesrv1, address it under the name of smb://rzfilesrv1/infhome/username, eg smb://rzfilesrv1/infhome/meier.
Keyboard
Select "system preferences" and then "country settings" and then the tab "Input Menu" to display the Keyboard Viewer menu. In "Select the keyboard layouts ..." select the "Keyboard Viewer" and "Show input menu in menu bar" at the bottom of the menu bar.
When you click in the menu bar on the German flag and then select "Show Keyboard Viewer" , you will see a small keyboard on the screen, indicating which characters are generated by which key. Press, for example, the Shift, Alt, or Command key and you can see which characters you get now.
Lock screen
Not very intuitive: In "Keychain" (under "Programs" -> "Utilities") choose "Settings" and select "Show status in menu bar" there.
When you click in the menu bar on the lock, you can choose the menu item "protect screen" lock your screen against access by others.
Software
In addition to the existing MacOS X software this software is installed.
Smartboards and Beamers
There are
- Wall monitors with touch operation in rooms D018 and D114
- Beamers: permanently installed (ceiling mount) with screen and speakers in rooms D010, D017 and D118/119. For other pool rooms, portable beamers can be borrowed from the iRZ systems support (D107).
Scanners
An A3 and A4 flatbed scanner are available in room D112. They are connected to a Windows 10 PC that offers the appropriate scanner software with image, OCR, Office and PDF capability.
A 3D scanner or printer can be used in consultation with the working group SAV.
