Robot Mental Development and Online Learning
Autonomous mental development by robots is a new field that has drawn increasing attention in robotics and artificial intelligence. In this seminar, we will present techniques that enable robots to develop its mental skills autonomously through online interactions with its environment, guided by a new kind of program - developmental program. Such robots are called developmental robots. It requires that the internal architecture and representation be derived automatically and incrementally by the developmental program from real-time experience for tasks that are unknown during the programming time. We will describe SAIL developmental robot built at MSU and show some cognitive and behavior capabilities that the SAIL robot has autonomously developed, including vision-guided indoor and outdoor navigation, grounded auditory learning, audition-directed action learning and audition-directed action chaining. |
